Saturday's the day

After 5 weeks of studying research methodology and oral history techniques, these Marshall High School Puente students (and a few more who weren't photographed) had a chance to first practice interviewing each other, and then...

interview elders who have lived most, if not all of their lives in Pasadena. Here are a few students listening to Daniel Castro, Sr. share highlights from the first 90 years of his life.

They connection that they are experiencing through this process is clearly positively impacting Senior and students. History is being kept alive.

I'll be on a panel with them this coming Saturday as we present at the National Association for Chicana and Chicano Studies annual convention.

  1. It's wonderful to record these oral histories. Perhaps share them with Pasadena Heritage? They have an oral history project, too.

  2. That's a great idea, but they tend to do much more formal oral histories. And at this point the OH the students are doing are more informative than formal.
This is a project that will have a bit of organic growth about it. We'll see what happens in the future.
