On an almost clear day

It seems hard to keep up with the weather.  The past couple of days have had the sort of heat that kills plants that haven't become established.  As proof at our house there are several alyssum that will never live to seed another day.

It was just a week ago Friday that I took this photo from the landing at the entrance to Washington Middle School on Monk's Hill, the highest point in Pasadena.
The vista from the school is usually striking; Friday it was stunning. That's the South Pasadena water tower off in the distance.
Looking to the west, the Hotel Bonaventure and companions in Los Angeles were very much present.
And the span of the valley looking east was vast.
Thanks to rain and the clouds for their help in framing these pictures.

  1. Great shots!
I've never taken photos around there. The school is enclosed in a fence, as you know, and I don't have much business around schools. I'm conscious of being a strange adult with a camera in a place where that may not be welcome.
It took me the longest time to figure out what Monk's Hill was and where it was. One sees it from the freeway then loses it. Yet it's within walking distance of my house!

  2. The sky was amazing that day. I know what you mean about fences and such.
James and I were at WMS because I was dropping off a copy of a powerpoint presentation I'd delivered during a staff development meeting. It was fun to be on the Linda Vista side of the arroyo and get WMS in the picture.
