Bless Me, Ultima movie, Opening Weekend

I spent the bulk of my writing time yesterday trying to put together a post to let folks know that the literary classic, Bless Me, Ultima, had been made into a movie and this was the weekend it was being released into movie theatres.  I was urging people to GO SEE the MOVIE this weekend, PLEASE!

Because it was so meaningful to me, I found myself writing and then discussing, why it was special to me - for far too many hours.  I was at a point where setting up a context for the contextual setting of the piece was being threaded through clever language.  Enough.

Bless Me, Ultima is an award winning, controversial, Big Read choice, Chicano classic, novel.  It is a banned book in Arizona and has been burned in Colorado.  It is meaningful to many and is beautifully written.

The movie is receiving truly fine reviews.   I'm heading out the door right now.  Maybe I'll see you at the screening?

Please go see it.

  1. Beautiful cinematography. Recognized a lot of the characters as if they were from my won family. Not often you get reflections on Catholicism and hihilism discussed by children in a movie.
