PLAC Scholarship Dinner

Tonight is the annual Pasadena City College President's Latino Advisory Committee scholarship dinner.  15 students will be awarded scholarships this evening. Awardees majors include the fields of Chemistry, Liberal Studies, Engineering, Psychology, Biology, Environmental science, Nursing, Physics, and Radio/Television/ Film.
The acceptance speeches given by the students are always moving. 

There are a few seats left - tickets to be purchased at the door.
The cost for the evening is $40. An informal reception begins at 6 PM. 
Dinner and awards ceremony begins at 7 PM
At Brookside Golf Club.

Our emcee for the evening will be Dan Guerrero.
I wrote about Dan earlier this year when he performed ¡Gaytino! at Westerbeck Hall.
What A fellow.
Actor, Director, producer, raconteur, and and all around charmer.



Our keynote speaker for this evening will be Dr. Alma Martinez. She directed the staged reading of "Stand and Deliver" at PCC. The reading featured professional actors and student actors performing together.  

You may recognize her from her work on television or the big screen. her career was launched with her first performance Zoot Suit.  Some of her more recent performances have have been seen in "Cake" and in the Peabody award-winning drama, "The Bridge".

Alma holds a PhD in drama from Stanford University, and M.F.A. In acting from the University of seven California, and a B.A. in theater from Whittier College. She has trained at the Royal Academy of dramatic art and at the Centro Universitario De Teatro (CUT) at the National University of Mexico.
She is a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
