Cherry Blossom in LA, this week end

Cherry Blossom Festival of Southern California began in Pasadena. Wendy Fujihara Anderson, Kellye Nakahara Wallett, and Michael Motoyasu, were the founders. It began at the Civic Center, moved to Victory Park, and then on to the Rose Bowl. In 2007 it moved from Pasadena to Los Angeles and received an amazing amount of support. Council member Jan Perry, pictured below, has actively participated in a reenactment of a traditional wedding ceremony.
The size of the Cherry Blossom has bloomed. In 2008 the attendance was 30,000, there were 200 volunteers and scads of opportunity for all sorts of fun. Although the event has grown larger there is still enough room to wander through the many, many stalls and see a vast array arts and culture from the most traditional to jpop style. From Hawaiian slack key guitar to Best in Festival - Most Photogenic Dog Contest.
