A blending time of year

I don't believe that time heals all wounds. It's a good sound bite, a good cliché, but not usually true. However I do believe that time changes all things. Another good cliché but one that seems more true.

Had you asked me 30 years ago if I would be comfortable spending time with our daughter's extended family, including my ex-husband and his wife, I would have probably nodded politely in the affirmative, and internally thought "Perhaps; most likely when Hades freezes over".

But there we all were this past Tuesday night. Chatting in the house while James and Matt, our son-in-law, were at the grill cooking our dinner. And everybody having a good time. Eventually discussing multiple branches of the family. Trying to add pieces to the blended familial puzzle and just having a good time, because...
well, because our next generation can be happier and stronger because they know where their family came from, what their lives were like and what helped their grownups learn to spend time with each other. They can sleep deep, surrounded by adults who love them and who will do all they can to have them enjoy the beginning of another year together - as a family.

  1. It has been an interesting time for me...meeting up with all my siblings and my nieces and nephews. I even spent some time with my stepfather's family..first time for that. So yeah, extended family caught up with me ... Have a happy new year to you and all your family.

Steve, here's hoping this new year offers you more chances to spend time with you family.
