Women's History Month - The rules of the game

This photo was taken in Las Animas or Pueblo, Colorado in either 1929 or 1930. Posed are my Cousin Goya, Tío Agapito, and my mom, Nellie (l to r).

How proud to know that I come from a long line of strong women who have gently broken "rules of the game of limitation" by means as simple as being on a baseball team. And to know about the good men that helped them break those rules.

My mother stood 5 feet and one half inch, but as a role model she was a giant to me.

This photo, complete with crack, seemed a most appropriate choice since it touches on several things that this Pasadena Latina will be involved with this week. Look at latinoheritage@blogspot.com tomorrow and you'll read about events in our city that are breaking ground, each in their own way.

  3. Great photo! I have a lot of relatives in Pueblo...must have been the steel mill that attracted them. Would love to hear more about the history there.

  4. Thanks. While I was at the National Association for Chicana and Chicano Studies conference I met a professor who is going to connect me with a professor who focused not on Pueblo, but specifically on Bessemer. Keep an eye on the blog. I don't know when this will happen, but I'm sure it will take place.
