To share, to preserve, and to remember

KPCC has a wide range of great talk shows. CarTalk, Airtalk,The Splendid Table, Wait, Wait, and on and on. Very cool to listen to the BBC World News. It's great to tune in to one station and hear local, regional and national news. Glad that they are in their brand new digs The Mohn Broadcast Center on Raymond.

Tonight a group of us had a chance to take a peek at the Center at a gathering hosted by StoryCorps and KPCC. We were in The Crawford Family Forum learning about a local effort by SC to record oral histories of Latinos. Currently 4% of oral histories preserved by SC are of Latinos. StoryCorps Historias mission is to record and preserve the stories of Latinos across the story.

Patricia Nazario (l) and Shirley Jahad (r) were there this evening. It was great to put a face to the reporter's voice we often hear so often on the radio. I know I'll listen to their stories in a different way now that I've seen and then met them. Here's hoping that listening to Historias will provide insight into the diverse Latino community in a similar way.
